About this work
A nude winged figure lies prone across a stony, ochre-toned shoreline, large white feathered wings spread across the body and one bare foot turned upward. A dark-haired boy crouches close by, bent low to look at a single white feather lying loose on the stones between them, with large pale stones or eggs resting further off.
Warm ochre and gold dominate the ground and light, set against the cool white of the wings and pale flesh, giving the scene a heavy, late-afternoon glow. Soft, blended brushwork and diffuse shadow lend the fallen figure a hushed, elegiac stillness, the boy's curious pose the only movement in an otherwise silent composition.
