About this work

Three vertical panels each show a single nude woman seated on a pedestal against a plain colored ground. On pink, the left figure holds carnations above banks of peonies and irises; on gold, the center figure sits amid wheat holding red fruit to her chest; on blue, the right figure rests her chin on her hand as butterflies swirl around her and irises bloom below.

Each panel uses a distinct palette, pink, gold and blue, to separate the figures, while smooth academic modeling gives the skin firm volume against loosely painted, decorative flowers and grain. The symmetrical poses and symbolic attributes lend the triptych a classical, allegorical tone.
