About this work
An ochre-brown guitar-like form with a looping red accent sits at the center of the canvas, bordered on the left by a dark, boot-shaped mass and on the right by pale, folded shapes suggestive of drapery or a hand. Above and around these forms, a dense field of overlapping color patches and calligraphic marks fills the upper half of the composition, resisting a single clear reading.
Hot ochres and golds sit against cool teal and lavender patches, applied with a loaded brush and palette knife in short, energetic strokes and occasional drips. The surface is built up thickly, its abstracted forms and vivid clashing color creating a restless, improvisational energy rather than a settled scene.
