About this work
A tight, close-up view frames large lichen-covered boulders breaking through dark, reflective water, their surfaces streaked with jade green and capped by patches of snow or frost. Smaller stones are scattered across the background water, with a few bare twigs crossing the lower edge of the composition.
The palette sets deep blackish-brown water against pale, icy whites and mossy greens on the stone surfaces, built up with thick, textured brushwork that mimics rough mineral crusts. The tight cropping and near-abstract framing produce a quiet, meditative mood of winter stillness at the water's edge.
