About this work
Tiered terracotta-roofed houses and a domed public building crown a steep hill, pale walls stepping down narrow lanes. Below, terraced fields and dark cypress spires descend toward a paler, hazy expanse at lower right, with scattered rooftops continuing along the base of the hill.
Warm ochre and salmon pastel light the sunlit upper village, set against cool blue-violet strokes in the shadowed slopes and terraces below. Quick, angular hatching describes the cypresses and walls, giving the hillside a lively, broken texture and a bright, animated feel.
