About this work
A quiet bend of water threads through a marsh, its banks lined with tall golden and rust-colored grasses. A screen of autumn birches in yellow and orange foliage runs along the middle distance, with dark evergreen spruces rising behind them. The still surface faintly reflects the pale sky and the surrounding color of the banks.
The palette is dominated by warm golds, ochres, and burnt oranges set against deep green-black conifers and a soft grey-blue sky. Light is even and diffused, and the brushwork is loose and textured, with directional strokes suggesting grass blades and foliage.
