About this work
A calm river curves through the lower third of the canvas, its dark water broken only by soft reflections. Clustered willow-like trees mass along the near bank on the left, while a small pale moon hangs low over the far shore, its light doubled in a faint reflection on the water.
An almost monochrome wash of yellow-green covers the sky, applied in a grainy, textured layer that gives the air a soft, granular glow. Darker earth tones anchor the foreground, and the overall tonal restraint, quiet water, and single glowing moon create a hushed, dreamy nocturnal stillness.
