About this work
Snow-laden branches arch over a path buried under deep drifts, with a pink-walled house half hidden among frosted trees in the middle distance. Bare twigs and a few blue shadow-lines are the only marks breaking the near-uniform white of snow-covered ground, shrubs and rooftops.
The palette is almost monochrome, built from whites, pale blues and soft greys with only a whisper of pink for warmth. Thick, dragged strokes model the soft mounds of snow, while thin dark lines sketch bare branches against the haze, producing a still, muffled, wintry calm.
