Francis

A half-length figure wrapped in a white and cream hood or cowl occupies the center, the fabric draping down over the shoulders in broad curved strokes. The face beneath is blurred and largely featureless, built from smeared pink, red and grey marks, set against a warm gold-ochre background streaked with dark patches.

Thick, dragged paint builds the hood in near-white ridges while the face is scumbled into an ambiguous mask of color rather than distinct features. The glowing gold ground and pale drapery contrast with the murky, unresolved face, producing an eerie, almost apparition-like presence.
