About this work
A cluster of flowers in shades of pink, cream and deep maroon, mixed with sprays of green leaves, fills the center of the composition, loosely gathered in a pale, softly lit vessel at the base. The blossoms and foliage dissolve into one another, with individual petals suggested rather than drawn in detail.
Paint is applied thickly and loosely, with soft dabs and drags building the flower heads and a muted grey-green wash filling the background. Warm pinks and cool greens sit side by side in broken, unblended strokes, and the overall softness of edges gives the still life a hazy, quietly atmospheric mood.
