About this work
Slanting streaks of rain fall from a bank of heavy grey and white clouds onto a rolling meadow patched with pink, violet and green wildflowers. A dark stand of trees shelters a small red-roofed cottage in the middle distance, with round haystacks dotted across the grass before it.
Thick, saturated dabs of pink, violet and green build the meadow into a vivid, almost quilted surface, while straight pale lines of rain cut a dramatic diagonal through the sky. The clash between the festive color below and the darkening storm above gives the picture an energetic, charged tension.
