About this work

A rough, richly textured field of burnt orange and umber fills the lower left, scratched with thin red lines and pale flecks. From the center a pale grey-blue spiral unfurls toward the upper right, its looping bands suggesting the curved body and scales of a fish turning through murky water, with a patch of olive green at the upper left.

Built with thick, worked impasto and dragged palette-knife strokes, the composition sets a warm rust ground against cool blue-violet passages; the brushwork stays loose and gestural rather than descriptive, giving the fish-like form a dissolving, murky presence.
