About this work
The canvas is filled almost entirely by an exploding burst of light, its white-gold core radiating thin arcing trails of spark upward and outward into a deep red sky. A dark mass of tree foliage is glimpsed at the right edge, grounding the otherwise abstract explosion in a night setting.
Paint is applied in energetic, dragged strokes and flicked lines that fan out from a dense, cream-white center through orange and crimson toward near-black at the corners. The handling is loose and gestural to the point of abstraction, and the composition conveys sudden, crackling brightness and heat.
