About this work
An abstracted nocturne suggests a firework display over a canal: near-black silhouettes of moored boats and mooring posts anchor the lower half, their edges blurring into rippling reflections below, while the upper two-thirds glow with warm cream and apricot light flecked with small white bursts like drifting sparks or smoke.
The palette shifts from warm gold at the top to charcoal and umber below, applied with thick, dragged and scraped strokes that build a weathered, textured surface. Forms are suggested rather than described, their edges blurred, producing a fleeting, atmospheric impression of light and smoke over water at night.
