About this work
A tabletop grouping of vessels, a round jug, a slender bottle and a blue-tinted glass with what may be a bowl of fruit, are pressed so close together that their outlines merge; a small pale, indistinct figure or ornament sits apart at the upper left, watching over the huddled shapes below.
Thick, buttery impasto in gold, ochre and olive, cool blue-violet accents ripple through the glass and shadows. Paint is dragged and layered in heavy ridges so the objects visibly run into one another, the warm low light producing a soft, dreamlike blur rather than sharp still-life clarity.
