About this work
An open courtyard is enclosed by tall multi-storey facades pierced with rows of windows and a lower arcade of deep, shadowed niches. Small marks within the arches suggest figures or statues, dwarfed by the scale of the surrounding architecture, while the paved ground stretches wide and empty in the foreground.
Warm pink, ochre and gold tones wash over the stonework, applied in loose, energetic strokes that leave the architecture slightly softened and vibrating with light. The glowing, golden-hour palette and long shadows in the arcade give the space a hushed, expansive, late-day calm.
