About this work

A nude figure sits with knees drawn up, twisting to look back over one shoulder. Down the spine, thigh and calf, the skin is incised with a vertical chain of miniature human figures, huddled and bowed as if descending a lineage, alongside small scratched marks near the shoulder resembling flying creatures. An apple lies on the ground beside the figure's open hand.

Dense, even cross-hatching models the body's volume in smooth, sculptural greys, while the embedded figures are drawn in a finer, sketchier line that reads almost like a tattoo or a fresco set into the flesh. The stark contrast between the solid body and the crowded miniature scene gives the print an uneasy, symbolic charge.
