About this work
A squat, bell-shaped clay vessel with a short narrow neck sits on a dark velvet cloth. Its rounded body is covered edge to edge with sinuous painted tendrils and curling arabesque forms in teal, rust-red, ochre, and white, while the shoulder and neck are left in bare mustard-toned clay.
The decoration is applied in flat bands of flowing pattern, outlined and layered like folk textile motifs against a mottled red-orange ground. A speckled deep-blue backdrop makes the warm colors of the vase glow, giving the object a playful, ornamental character built from rhythmic, hand-painted line work.
