About this work
A calm river curves through the composition, its glassy surface mirroring a dense band of dark pines along the far bank and pale morning mist drifting above the water. On the left bank sit low wooden houses of a small village, with a couple of moored rowboats at the water's edge; grassy slopes and scattered fir trees rise on the right.
Soft blue-grey and green tones dominate, with the mist softening the tree line into hazy silhouettes reflected in the water below.
