About this work
A high vantage point looks down sun-dried, golden hillsides into a valley where a cluster of white houses with red roofs sits among green gardens and orchard trees. The settlement is framed by tawny and olive ridges that rise on both sides, with a bare rocky crag on the left and the sea opening beyond the far hills toward the horizon.
Warm ochre and gold dominate the slopes, cooling to soft blue-grey where the sea meets a pale sky, with atmospheric haze softening the distance. Foreground grasses are built up with loose, dry strokes, while the town is picked out in small, precise touches of white and red. The mood is sunlit, expansive, and quietly serene.
