About this work
A dark, upright silhouette suggestive of a standing or dancing figure emerges from a wash of blue and white paint at the centre, flanked by smaller dark clusters read as additional heads or draped forms. Streaks of red run down through the torso like a sash or wound, and the group stands on a band of warm ochre and brown at the base, as if reflected in water.
Paint is applied in loose, gestural sweeps and thin drips, the blues and whites built wet-into-wet while dark forms are dragged across them. The cool palette breaks only for the ochre ground and red accents, giving the image a restless quality more like sensed movement than a fixed scene.
