About this work
A reclining female nude lies diagonally across the canvas, head thrown back and turned to one side, dark hair gathered above her, one arm stretched out beyond the frame's edge. Her body is reduced to broad, abstracted planes of flesh tone, with facial features left almost undefined against a mottled backdrop.
Thick impasto is dragged and scraped across the surface in blues, teals, and slate greys, punctuated by a warm orange-pink patch in one corner and streaks of ochre near the hair. The heavy, palette-knife texture and blurred anatomy give the figure a hazy remove, more a sensation of a body than a likeness.
