About this work

A ghostly face emerges from a field of vertical drips and smears: faint eyes, a nose and lips are legible beneath cascades of paint that seem to pour down the canvas like rain or a veil, dissolving the features into the surrounding darkness.

Painted in near-monochrome blues, greens and blackish browns with pale cream streaks marking the highlights of the face, the surface is built by dragging and dripping thick paint vertically, leaving a rough, weathered texture. The mood is dark, hushed and mysterious, closer to a sensation of breath or vapor than a likeness.
