About this work
Viewed from behind, a standing nude turns her head in profile, curly hair pulled up, while her back, shoulders and rounded buttocks are modeled in dark wash. Below the hips the legs disappear into a dense net of crosshatched and dripping lines, as if dissolving into shadow or drapery pooling on the ground.
Heavy black ink is layered over the torso in soft washes that model volume, contrasted with a scratchy, almost violent lattice of straight lines and spatter across the lower half. The mix of tonal shading and raw linear energy gives the figure a restless, unsettled presence.
