About this work
Clustered onion domes topped with crosses rise beside a tall pointed spire, their dark forms densely packed against the sky. A small patch of green ground and a tiny orange shape sit at the base, while loose blue and teal marks suggest surrounding trees or rooftops.
Rendered almost entirely in near-black pastel, the church silhouette sits inside a radiant halo of scribbled yellow, cream and lilac strokes that seem to blaze around it like firelight or dawn. The stark contrast between the dense dark mass and the loose glowing scribbles gives the sketch a mysterious, visionary charge.
