About this work
The onion domes and tented tower of a cathedral rise above a canal embankment, with a bridge, railing and a pale apartment building sketched to the left. Below, the water and stonework dissolve into dark, dripping washes and loose pencil hatching.
Executed almost entirely in smudged indigo and grey-black wash over bare white ground, the work reads as a rapid, expressive study rather than a finished view. Ink bleeds and drips down the canvas while the architecture flickers between precise contour and dissolving shadow, producing a moody, unresolved atmosphere.
