About this work
A canal edged with a rough stone retaining wall curves through a park, its dark water reflecting the trees crowding the far bank. Rounded grey boulders break the surface in the shallow foreground, and tangled roots spill over the near bank on the right, where a slender trunk grows close to the water's edge.
Dappled sunlight breaks through the canopy, scattering warm gold and green patches across the water and stones, while the stone wall reads in cool grey-violet tones. Reflections are built with broken, horizontal strokes that blur the boundary between bank and water. The overall effect is quiet and sun-warmed, a still corner of greenery caught at midday.
