About this work
A nude male figure reclines diagonally across the sheet, propped on one bent leg drawn up high behind him while the torso twists toward the viewer. His head tilts back, mouth open with one hand pressed near his lips, the other arm extended along the ground for support; underlying construction lines and a loosely indicated ground remain visible beneath him.
Rendered in graphite or charcoal on a pale ground, the drawing builds volume through cross-hatching and smudged shading across chest, shoulder and thigh, leaving the face and background more loosely indicated. Tones stay within soft greys, with the raised leg pushed into deeper shadow, giving the study a taut, anatomical intensity typical of an academic life drawing.
