About this work
A nude female figure hangs upside down, ankles hooked around a vertical pole at the top of the sheet, legs extended straight upward. Her torso curves downward, one arm reaching toward the floor and the other bent across her chest, head tilted back so she looks directly out at the viewer.
Executed entirely in warm sepia tones on paper, the drawing builds form through fine hatching and softly blended shading, leaving much of the ground bare to suggest light. The acrobatic, off-balance pose and steady gaze give the study a tense, physically demanding presence.
