About this work
Within a roundel bordered by an interlocking red, blue and gold meander pattern, a muscular nude man stands raising a curved club overhead while a bull-headed opponent kneels before him, one arm braced on the ground and the other raised in defense. The two figures are locked in close combat against a flat dark teal ground, their bodies angled to convey the moment before the blow lands.
