About this work
A warrior in bronze armor and a plumed helmet leans back atop a rearing white horse, gripping a long spear angled down at a scaled, fanged dragon lunging up from below. A heavy red cloak billows behind horse and rider, filling most of the dark background, while the dragon's claws and open jaws crowd the foreground.
The palette is built almost entirely from deep reds, browns and near-black, with the pale horse and rider's skin standing out in glossy, sharp highlights. Strong raking light gives the musculature and drapery folds a hard, sculptural intensity, compressing the composition into a forceful clash charged with the tension of combat.
