About this work
A dark wooden log house with a shingled gable roof and a small fenced yard stands in the foreground on a grassy shore. Beyond it stretches a broad, still lake of deep blue-grey, backed by high, layered hills or mountains fading into haze. Smaller cabins and outbuildings are scattered along the far shoreline on both sides.
Cool blues, greys and greens dominate under a hazy, overcast sky, with only muted ochre in the log walls and dirt path breaking the palette. Soft, blended brushwork and a lack of strong shadow suggest diffused daylight over water, giving the view a still, quiet calm typical of a remote lakeside settlement.
