About this work
A row of trees closes off the horizon: dark spruces alternate with birches and shrubs turning yellow, orange, and rust, their canopies catching patches of failing light. In front stretches an empty field of pale dried grass, and above them a heavy, clouded sky fills most of the canvas.
The palette stays muted and earthy—ochre, olive, and warm gray—broken by streaks of orange and gold in the foliage. Paint is applied in loose, textured strokes with visible canvas weave, and the sky is worked wet-into-wet in soft grays. The overall effect is quiet and subdued, an ordinary corner of countryside caught in fading autumn light.
