About this work
An arched niche in muted green and brown frames a window with a striped blue shutter standing open onto a dark interior. Below the sill, on a white table, sit a round loaf-like form and a dark rounded vessel beside pale draped cloth, the table itself covered in a red, black and tan checkerboard cloth.
Flat, simplified shapes and muted greens, browns and deep blues are broken by the bright patchwork pattern of the tablecloth. The naive handling and dim, enclosed space give the small interior a quiet, faintly mysterious stillness.
