About this work
A reclining nude figure stretches across the horizontal canvas: a bent knee and thigh emerge at left, the body curving back toward a woman's profile at right, her face turned away beneath loose blonde hair. The forms dissolve into passages of thick paint, leaving only the essential contours of body and hair legible amid streaks of color.
Warm ochre, gold, and coral dominate, scraped and dragged with a palette knife alongside flicks of white, blue and violet. Light seems to radiate from within the paint surface rather than falling from a single source, and the heavily worked, gestural brushwork pushes the image toward abstraction. The effect is loose and dreamlike rather than descriptive.
