About this work
A wooden chest of drawers with a keyhole lock, a fork and spoon, a slender blue glass, a pale pear and the curved handle of a jug are broken apart and reassembled into overlapping, irregularly shaped panels stacked in a loose column, as if a tabletop and its contents had been taken apart and rebuilt as a puzzle.
Muted ochre, umber and grey washes dominate, broken by the cool blue of the glass and green of the pear and foliage below. Bled watercolor stains and visible paper grain give the surface a weathered, parchment-like quality, while thin lines mark joints between fragments, producing an unsettling, dreamlike reconstruction of an ordinary scene.
