About this work
A dark, rounded bakelite switch is fixed at the center of the composition, its twisted fabric-covered cord running vertically from top to bottom edge and fastened with rusted staples. It sits flush against striped wallpaper patterned with small pink blossoms and pale leaf sprigs, filling the entire square format in tight close-up.
Muted sage greens, dusty pinks and warm ochres are built up in soft pastel strokes that mimic the woven texture of the paper and fabric cord. Gentle shading around the switch's rim creates a convincing sense of volume, while diffuse light keeps contrasts low. The tight cropping and quiet palette turn a mundane fixture into a still, meditative fragment of a vanished domestic interior.
