About this work
A narrow road recedes between two dark, low mounds of hedge or hillside, meeting a bright, hazy gap where the path seems to dissolve into fog. The horizon is barely differentiated from the pale sky above, and the near ground is rendered as a broad, empty expanse of shadowed grey-brown earth.
The palette stays almost monochrome — greys, taupe and a warm cream light at the vanishing point — with heavily scraped, textured paint that leaves the canvas weave visible throughout. Soft, blurred edges and a single band of warm light create a hushed, contemplative mood, as if the road were seen through mist at dusk or early morning.
