About this work
A row of tall dark cypresses lines a stone path that curves toward a fortified tower and adjoining buildings with red-tiled roofs. A small white statue stands at a bend in the garden, and a bed of pink and red roses fills the lower right corner while an open lawn spreads to the left.
Soft ochre and grey-green tones dominate, laid down in loose, visible brushstrokes typical of outdoor painting. Diffuse daylight flattens the shadows and softens the stonework, while the deep greens of the cypresses and lawn set off the warmer masonry behind them, giving the scene a quiet, unhurried garden atmosphere rather than a dramatic fortress mood.
