About this work
An oversized boat hull, its surface carved with reliefs of mountains, a line of small figures, and a framed image of a fish, rests balanced on crossed wooden poles set atop a wheeled plank base. Around it the sky is filled with scattered stars and a crescent-like glow.
Dense black cross-hatching and stippling model every carved surface in sharp relief against the speckled void of the night. The impossible, monument-like construction and stark tonal contrast give the print a dreamlike, almost totemic presence.
