About this work
A city street lined with multi-story houses in ochre, green, pink and cream recedes toward the right, their gables and chimneys sketched in loose outline. Tall trees in front of the buildings blaze with autumn foliage in orange, yellow and rust, their bare black branches visible beneath the leaves, with small figures walking along the street below.
Thick, textured strokes of oil combine with drawn pastel marks, giving leaves and facades a granular, tactile surface. Warm autumn color against a cool grey sky creates a vivid, slightly wistful contrast.
