About this work

A solitary bird with a heavy hooked bill and stout body stands centered on a rain-soaked paved yard, its shaggy feathers hunched against the downpour. To the left, a flight of stone steps and a curved iron railing recede into shadow, while the bird's own dark shadow pools on the wet stones beneath it.

Dense vertical hatching fills the entire sheet to suggest relentless rain, layered over looser crosshatched shadow on the ground and softer stippling on the bird's plumage. The high-contrast black ink and tight, meticulous linework give the small etching a hushed, isolating melancholy.
