About this work
A single nude figure, its body reduced to a smooth glowing mass of orange, stretches diagonally across the canvas with one arm raised overhead and legs trailing into the lower corner. Set against a coarse red-brown ground, a small separate panel of blue, white and red marks sits boxed in the corner.
Hot orange and vermilion dominate the palette, built up in thick, cratered impasto that pits and blisters the surface like scorched earth. Cooler charcoal and ochre patches frame the figure, giving the reclining form a smoldering, elemental presence.
