About this work

Two clusters of birch and poplar trees lean out over a curving river, their trunks bending as if pushed by wind. Two small boats sit moored at the water's edge, one nosed onto the bank, the other tied further along, while beyond the river a range of rolling hills rises under a pale, clouded sky.

Foliage is built from dense dabs of green, ochre and violet, echoed in the hillsides beyond so that trees and land share the same broken, dappled texture. Trunks are left as bare strokes of white and grey against the color. The overall effect is light and mobile, animated by the implied movement of wind through the leaning trees.
