About this work
Two arched windows open from a single room: at left a dim studio nook with jars of brushes, a laid-out canvas, and a heavy curtain framing a moonlit street below; at right a young woman with her hair in a topknot sits on the sill in a loose maroon robe, one foot bare on the tiled floor, beside a lit desk lamp and an apple on a small table.
Warm lamplight gilds the right-hand wall in ochre while cool blue moonlight fills both window openings, producing a theatrical split between the two scenes. Brushwork is smooth and controlled, with crisp shadows and carefully modeled fabric folds. The staged lighting and mirrored windows give the quiet interior a dreamlike, mysterious stillness.
