About this work
A narrow city street lined with tall, weather-stained buildings converges toward a luminous pale sky threaded with overhead wires. A round shop sign and dark timber shutters mark the nearest facade, while a paved roadway and long cast shadows occupy the foreground, with a second row of buildings glowing warmly at the far end.
Loose black contour lines anchor smudged strokes of ochre, rust and grey-brown across the walls, set against a soft wash of lavender, pale blue and cream standing in for the glow of a short summer night. The hazy sky against the dense dark buildings creates a hushed, suspended stillness.
