About this work
A standing woman in a long, patterned robe is framed by a mass of disembodied hands pressing against her face and shoulders from behind. Winged, haloed figures peer in from the upper corners, a skeleton plays a flute at her right, and shadowed faces watch from both sides. Her robe is covered in folk-style embroidery of masks, birds, and roses, and she stands barefoot on a wooden plank scattered with more roses.
Rendered entirely in graphite grays, fine cross-hatching and stippling build volume with no color beyond faint warm undertones. Tone ranges from near-black shadow at the edges to bright white on the central figure, creating a hushed, unsettling vision suspended between prayer and nightmare.
