About this work

A young woman in a white robe sits on the edge of a curtained wooden pavilion, her bare feet trailing in the lake below as she looks up toward something unseen. To the left, two pale, statue-like figures in white stand on rocks rising from the water - one holding an umbrella, the other raising a spyglass - watching over the still lake.

Soft greys and warm autumn ochres surround the pale, near-monochrome figures, under diffuse, even light. The paint is smoothly blended with little visible texture, and the ghostly stillness of the watchers gives the scene a hushed, mysterious sense of vigilant waiting.
