Volcano

A dense cluster of interlocking shapes in tan, ivory, coral and deep red spreads diagonally from the lower left toward the center, ringed by dark cracked outlines. Cool blue fields occupy the upper corners and edges, framing the warm mass like sky or sea around an eruption. Thin threads of teal and violet trace through the composition's lower edge.

Thick acrylic is worked over an ivory ground into a crusted, lava-like relief, its ridges and pockmarks catching light unevenly. Fiery oranges and reds push forward against the receding cool blue, and the heavy black fissures between color cells heighten the sense of pressure and heat, giving the surface an intense, molten charge.
