About this work
A broad, empty snowfield leads back to a low ridge dotted with village houses and rooftops, partly screened by a row of slender bare trees. A snow-covered barn sits half-sunken in the middle distance, flanked by dark saplings, while faint tracks cross the foreground snow.
The sky glows with soft peach and lilac clouds against grey-blue, its warmth reflected faintly on the snow below. Loose, dry brushwork builds the trees and drifts with quick, broken strokes, giving the scene a cold, hushed dusk atmosphere over the sleeping village.
